Whats Cooking

She said
In attempt to save money, we are now cooking at home ! I can not be happier :D Just a quick outline on our delicious yummies for the week.
He said
Yup its all abt saving money this time around, i cant seem to remember the last time we ate out, but with the girl;s exceptional cullinary skills, believe it or not, i dont miss eating at all, the food has been awesome for the past week or so. By the way we are so saving up for our food trip to sydney in a couple of weeks time. To some of the best(and most expensive) restaurants in sydney! woohoooo

p.s. the girl will be dropping in some comments on how to prepare the food(as she is he chef) and i will be commenting on the taste(i only know how to eat), so yea...:

Steamed scallops with garlic soy sauce
Photobucket
Simple but yet delicious, great way to utilise some fresh scallops we got off the market that day, loved the dish, but not a big fan of fried shallots the girl put on it, taste gd nonetheless.
Sambal fish in banana leaf
Photobucket
EXCEPTIONAL DISH! believe it or not the girl actually made the sambal from scratch and it tasted so gd and went down reli well with some rice...only disappointment was that there were a couple of bones left in there, but well, its a piece of fish. always be careful i supposed! still...a 10/10 for me

Mud crab fun: HE accompanied me to the market on Sunday (our usual market day). I decided i was going to attempt a black pepper crab famous in malaysia and singapore. Little did i expect, the crab was definately fresh and ALLIIIIVE 0.O

i was flustered and screamish and scared and HE decided to help by holding the knife while i whack it with a rollin pin. It was a traumatising event. Please dont haunt me mr crab!

YUP wat a hassle trying to kill the crab...but let me put it this way...it was worth all the effort, the killing was traumatizing but the taste was divine...the girl could totally open her own seafood stall in newton circus with this dish..!

For one of the colder day, I decided to be a little lazy and attempted a pot roast. It turned out pretty well but the meat could have been more 'fall off the bone' than what I achieved. It was cooking for 7 hours but apparently still not enough. I'll attempt it with 15 hours the next time. :D

MY VERDICT: AWESOME.

Project roast chicken

So I have a friend who is organising a house party and I decided to bring a roast chicken (it was huge!) Problem is this tasty recipe includes SOOOO many spices that is so similar to the effects of pepper its not even funny. So I had to put on some gear

Highly effective in preventing sneezes and also burning the skin of your hands when you rub the spices on the chicken .

IT was so huge it was like turkey!

But smart enough, I forgot to take a picture of the end product! Gosh! OH wellz, I'll get a picture of it the next time I make this. It's one of HIS favourites so I'm sure that will be soon.

Finally, HE was soooo excited to go to the market to get some decadent truffles. Yes, as in black truffles sold whole! Since it is the second most expensive ingredient after saffron you can get, it definately is a luxury.

Truffle rissotto
Photobucket
and man was the truffle goooood!!!...well for ppl who are curious and are yet to taste it..it is really earthy..taste kinda like a very very very fragrant mushroom, with a touch of aged wine. and the flavour is jus, intense...!! have it with somehting simple such as a risottto(beautifully done by the girl as usual) is just a delight! highly recommeded stuff( black truffles is available at fruits on coventry in south melb market till end of spring). shall try it with some scrambled eggs next time around.

That is all for today, till next time. its farewell from US!
